Getting up in the morning is a delicate business.
Shocking yourself out of deep restful sleep by a loud
impersonal beep is possibly the worst way to start your day.
In my book, I propose the perfect sonic alarm, based on insights from sleep scientists, that eases you up through lighter states of sleep, until at the top, you softly surface.
The ‘Rose Garden Alarm’ is a 20 minute gradual crescendo of birdsong and morning activity; set in the imaginary idyll of a country village. As the volume builds, the sounds drift further
into your conscious awareness; bringing you gently
awake. Towards the end, a distant church bell rings; a
final call to rouse the most stubborn sleepers still
reveling in their dreams.
For the best body-clock aligning effects,
co-ordinate this alarm with a fade up of
pink-white or warm white light.
